Home | Town: Duns
Locations: Allanton |

Information: Duns is situated on the slopes of Duns Law, and close to the original Duns Castle, which was built in 1320, by the Earl of Moray, nephew of Robert the Bruce. The town was frequently attacked by the English as they headed north to lay waste to the Lothians, and was burned to the ground three times in the 16th century. In 1640 Duns became a mustering point for the Covenanting armies, and ten years later, Cromwell had a garrison installed in the town to keep the locals under control.
