Title: The Moon Endureth: Tales and Fancies

Author: John Buchan (1st Baron Tweedsmuir)

Year of Publication: 1912 (20th century)

Type: Short Story

Genre: Adventure/Thriller, Historical Fiction, Supernatural,

Plot Summary: These diverse tales are linked by the theme of mysterious forces or coincidences in human life, often linked to specific geographical spaces or lines of inheritance. Four of the stories have Border settings, with two of these – ‘Streams of Water in the South’ and ‘The Rime of True Thomas’ – being reprinted from Grey Weather (q.v.). ‘The Riding of Ninemileburn’ is a gritty, unsentimental account of reiving and counter-reiving in the Ettrick Forest and Liddesdale. ‘The Green Glen’ describes the influence on modern-day people of an ancient, strangely haunted fold in the hills of Tweedsmuir.
