Title: The Deil of Littledean
Author: James Robertson
Genre: Supernatural
Plot Summary: A Border peel to the east of Maxton, Littledean Tower has been haunted at least twice. First by a former lady of the house who, repenting of her meanness in life, told a maidservant where to find hidden treasure and how to distribute it. Second, by demon's digits. A Royalist member of the Ker family who hunted Covenanters on Ancrum Moor and into Moffatdale during the late 17th century was known to be cruel to all and sundry, earning the nickname 'Deil (Devil) of Littledean'. His outrageous domestic deeds even earned him the curse of his suffering wife, as a result of which Ker was seduced by a female demon who later pursued him in the form of a hare. Ker lopped off the hare's paw, and when the creature returned to human form its hand was missing. The hand now sought revenge and would follow Ker wherever he went, eventually throttling him in his bed.
