Type: Novel
Genre: Adventure/Thriller, Historical Fiction, Speculative Fiction,
Plot Summary: In this tale about a (wholly fictional) Jacobite rising after the Rebellion of 1745, Scott re-uses a local Border legend concerning MacLaren of Invenenty and a remote, steep-sided corrie. Called the ‘Devil’s Beef Tub’ because of its earlier use by the reiving Johnstone family to hide stolen cattle, this natural feature lies to the South of Annanhead Hill, about 5 miles north of Moffat.
