Title: A Covenanter's Curse
Author: James Robertson
Genre: Supernatural
Plot Summary: In 1983, at the height of Scotland' religious perturbation known as the 'killing times', a Royalist soldier, Andrew Bruce of Earlshall, approached a local laird, Pringle of Buckholm, for help. He needed the latter's expertise on where Covenanters might be hiding on nearby Ladhope Moor, and knew that he could count on the man's enthusiasm for such a hunt. Only two Covenanters were caught and these were afterwards held in Buckholm Tower. Pringle, drunk and full of hatred, murdered them, hung the corpses on hooks in the dungeon, and then showed the bodies to the victims' mother. She cursed him, and from then on Pringle was chased by hellish hounds. No sleep would come to him. No wild rides in the night could shake off their pursuit. Even after his death, Pringle's frantic screams have been heard either in the (now ruined) Buckholm Tower or the nearby woods along Gala Water.
