Information: The village of Ancrum is situated just off the A68 between St Boswells and the turn-off for Hawick. The name comes from Old English - 'crumb' - 'at the bend of the river 'Ale'. Formerly spelled 'Ancram' as in the present day title 'Earl of Ancram' whose home is nearby.
